US Visit: A Recap

This is long overdue as I have been extremely busy since I came back from the US. I have to leave for China a few days from now and I have loads of things to do before my next trip.

It was my first time in the US and my visit there was not as exciting as my trips to some parts of Asia and Europe. One factor might have been that I was too busy with work, studies, and other things before my departure. Another was that I found the environment quite lonely (for me). However, I’m still thankful that I’ve got friends based in San Diego, LA, and Las Vegas, who got out of their ways just to meet me and to make my US visit rather special.

I was billeted in one of University of California, San Diego’s apartments (Geneva Hall in particular) together with four other wonderful ladies from Costa Rica (Hilda), Mexico (Lourdes), and China (Jennifer). I was in San Diego for most days, except for weekends, when I would pack up some of my things and go somewhere else – LA and Vegas for that matter.

These were the things I did during my spare time and during weekends:

This is sooooo American!

Nude Beach with Silvie and Lourdes

The Getty Gardens

  • Went to Balboa Park, La Jolla Cross, La Jolla Cove, with Silvie and lovely couple Feb and Maggie. Pigged out (again) at Crazy Buffet with them (went crazy over the dumplings!). That was really a great treat guys! Thanks! πŸ™‚

Going Crazy at Crazy Buffet

  • Oh, did my laundry… No hassles! The apartments were loaded with washing machines and dryers! πŸ™‚

  • Attended Sunday mass at Mary, Star of the Sea with Silvie.

  • Went to La Jolla Beach, Old Town, San Diego Downtown, and Little Italy with Dong, my Vietnamese classmate.

  • Went to Coronado Island and watched the sunset with another lovely couple Marc and Thess. Shopped at Fashion Valley Mall and dined at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion – a really great restaurant – yummy! Thanks Marc and Thess for the company and the dinner! πŸ™‚

  • Went to the University Town Center, a mall located a few minutes away from the UCSD campus.

  • Didn’t miss the huge Seafood City (Filipino Supermarket) in Mira Mesa! Was overjoyed upon seeing familiar things around – got tired of American and Mexican food, I guess.

  • Went to Universal Studios with Feb, Maggie, and Ate Perla. Thanks again Feb and Maggie! πŸ™‚

Hulk: Too Huge To Fit In

  • Went on a US-Mexican Border Tour with the group! Thanks IOA for bringing us there!

Silvie and Me with Mexicans On the Other Side of the Border

  • Went to Las Vegas and had the most exhausting weekend in my entire life doing the Vegas Strip tour. Played in the casinos, of course, and pigged out (again, sigh…) in two buffet meals in two straight days! Heard mass at Guardian Angel with Tita Alice. πŸ™‚ Thanks Tita Alice for bringing me around! πŸ™‚

Las Vegas at Daytime

Las Vegas at Night

Live Pirate Show (Burning Boat on Photo) at Treasure Island

  • Passed by the small towns of Barstow and Escondido on the way back to San Diego.

  • Cruised with Ana, Silvie, and Julio at San Diego Harbor. Fun! Fun! Fun! Reminded me of something else! Haha! Had another pig out session at Baja Fresh Mexican Grill. Passed by the Star of India and walked around the San Diego downtown at night.

Yummy Mexican Food!

  • Went back to Old Town with Eloi. Then visited Seaport Village.

  • Pigged out at some Japanese restaurant with Feb and Maggie.

  • Went around LA with Ache, Jason, Isabella, and Otoy. πŸ™‚

Although I found the place quite lonely in general, the people who took care of me there made my month-long stay in the US memorable! Thanks guys! πŸ˜€
